Douglas C. Montgomery is the ASU Foundation Professor for the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University. Prior to coming to ASU, Montgomery was the John M. Fluke Distinguished Professor of Engineering and was the Director of Industrial Engineering at the University of Washington. He had previously served as Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Montgomery has lectured extensively throughout the Americas, Europe and the Far East. He has been a Visiting Professor of Engineering at the Monterey Institute of Technology in Monterey, Mexico, and a University Distinguished Visitor at the University of Manitoba. Montgomery has conducted sponsored research with The Office of Naval Research, the National Science Foundation, and the United States Army.


Dr. Montgomery is an author of 13 textbooks that have appeared in 30 English editions and numerous foreign languages. His text, Design and Analysis of Experiments, is the most widely used university text for design of experiments. Montgomery is currently serving as the editor of Quality and Reliability Engineering International and as the associate editor of Naval Research Logistic s. Montgomery is on the editorial board of the Journal of Quality Technology , the Journal of Applied Statistics, Quality Engineering , the Journal of Probability and Statistical Science , and the International Journal of Production Research . Previously Dr. Montgomery served as editor of the Journal of Quality Technology , Applied Probability and Statistics Departmen t and Quality and Reliability Engineering Department for IIE Transactions .


Doug Montgomery has considerable industrial experience including engineering assignments with Union Carbide Corporation and Eli Lilly and Company. He has nearly 30 years of consulting experience with many national and international organizations.


Montgomery is a Fellow of the American Society for Quality , a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. He has held several national offices in ASQ, ASA, and IIE. He is a recipient of the Shewhart Medal, the William G. Hunter Award, the Brumbaugh Award, and a two-time recipient of the Shewell Award from the American Society for Quality Control. He also received the Ellis R. Ott Award. He has received several outstanding teaching awards, including the Arizona State University Engineering College Graduate Teaching Excellence Award.
