G. Geoffrey Vining, Ph.D. is the Professor and Head of the Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech. Dr. Vining is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the American Society for Quality, and is a past-chair of the Quality and Productivity section of the American Statistical Association. He has served as an editor of the Journal of Quality Technology . In 1990, he and Ray Myers won the Brumbaugh Award for their research in industrial experimentation. Dr. Vining is a widely recognized expert in the design of experiments for quality improvement who has won numerous teaching awards. His other specialty areas include response surface methodology, regression analysis, and statistical process control. He is the author of Statistical Methods for Engineers , and co-author of the books Introduction to Linear Regression Analysis (with D.C. Montgomery and E.A. Peck), Generalized Linear Models (with R.H. Myers and D.C. Montgomery), and Statistical Monitoring and Optimization for Process Control
